Marilyn Marie Lane passed away on December 28, 2023, at the age of 78, in Jefferson. She was born October 20, 1945, in Fargo, ND. Marilyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her love and advocacy for displaced pets.
In her educational journey, Marilyn attended Amenia Country School in Amenia, ND, for her primary education. She later graduated from Casselton High School in Casselton, ND. Marilyn continued her studies at Westmar College in LeMars.
Throughout her career, Marilyn held various positions. She worked as a secretary at Culver Engineering in the early ’80s and then as a legal secretary at Wilcox Law Firm from 1983 to 1988. Later, she served as a paralegal at Iowa State University from 1988 to 2007.
In her free time, Marilyn enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Her dedication to animal advocacy was evident in her hobbies and her lifelong love for animals.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Mark Lane; her children Dawn (David) Moses, Trent (Kasey) Barnes, and Chad (Jennifer) Barnes. She is also survived by her sister Eileen Piehl, her brother Todd Jonas, as well as nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father Wendell Jonas, her mother Violet Jonas, and her brother Stanley Jonas.
A memorial service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held at the Jefferson Elks Lodge on Thursday, Jan. 4. Contributions in Marilyn’s memory can be made to PAWS of Jefferson.
